Gunmen have opened fire on President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance convoy deployed ahead of his Trip to Daura, Katsina state for Sallah Celebrations on Tuesday.
Buhari is scheduled to be in Daura, his hometown in the state, for the Eid-el Kabir festival, billed for the weekend.
Reacting to the attack on tuesday night, Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, hailed the Presidential Security Guards for successfully repelling the attack.
“The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.”
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.”
“Two persons shot in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
The attack came less than a week after terrorists ambushed and killed over 40 soldiers and policemen who responded to a distress call when their killers pounced on expatriate and local miners around Shiroro, a community in Niger State, last Thursday.
